A portrait of the Mbyá-Guarani people living in Misiones, a subtropical province in Northeast Argentina. The people demonstrate everyday life existing on a geographical as well as a cultural border.

The filmmaker lives in Argentina and has produced Life at the Borderland (original Escenas de la Vida en el Borde) a series of films dealing with indigenous people living in the area of Argentina between Paraguay and Brazil. The series won a national contest, "Best Project for a Documentary TV Series", portraying everyday life at a particular "frontier space" in Northeast Argentina. Seguir Siendo is one of the four programs produced.

Above the water, the Indonesian island of Balobaloang looks like an ideal tropical paradise, with blue skies, coconut trees, and crystal water. Under the water, however, "fish bombing" with dynamite and cyanide is destroying the coral reef, threatening the marine habitat and the livelihoods of the island's inhabitants.

Traditionally, people who live in small islands in Indonesia have fished using sustainable fishing methods, and conserving and sharing resources. However, a high overseas demand for fish has created a new kind of economy, in which cargo ship owners export fish at the expense of island residents. Corruption and illegal fishing practices have made it impossible for traditional fishermen to receive a fair share of their paradise.

Collaborating with Balobaloang fishermen, the filmmakers confront illegal fishermen, government officials and police officers to investigate the dangerous new methods that threaten Balobaloang's sustainable way of life. Tackling the social, economic and environmental effects of illegal fishing, Sharing Paradise looks for solutions to the fishing problem and a more equitable, sustainable future for Balobaloang.

Weaving the Future is a video portrait of a unique indigenous community living in the Andean highlands of northern Ecuador. The story of the Otavalo Indians is not a stereotypical tale of "isolated people struggling to survive." Just the opposite. The people of Otavalo have successfully adapted their traditions of weaving and crafts to the international marketplace. Selling their textiles in the U.S., Europe and even in Japan, the Otavalos are by any measure the most prosperous Native people in South America. Theirs is a fascinating story of economic success and social change.

Increased prosperity has brought new challenges, as well as new opportunities. Weaving the Future is a documentary about people who are dealing with the pressures of change as they make their way in an increasingly global economy.

Weaving the Future explores tensions between traditional indigenous values and customs and the allure of an emerging Home Use economy; considers the impact of tourism, and examines the realities of ethnic tensions between the Otavalos and their less affluent white and mestizo neighbors. The program is intended for use in Anthropology, Latin American Studies, History, Development, and Global Studies.
